A ticket-only cocktail party to celebrate the rehung One Tree Hill College
Art Collection was held at the college (formerly Penrose High School) on
Friday, 13 March 2009. The event - one of the most important in the college
calendar since the golden jubilee in 2005 occurred the same day as the
dedication and opening of the rebuilt college.
It celebrated the art collection - one of the finest at any New Zealand college
- which was launched in 1969 by the then principal, Murray Print, and the then
art teacher, Wallace Crossman. It includes works by Colin McCahon, Toss
Woollaston, Gretchen Albrecht, W.A. Sutton, Patrick Hanly, Allen Maddox, Don
Peebles, Robin White and Ralph Hotere.
Guests met Mr Crossman, who came to Auckland specially for the event, and were
taken on a memorable tour of the collection by the curator, Paul
Baragwanath
