One Tree Hill College principal Iva Ropati has resigned to become principal of Howick College, Auckland, effective from 18 January 2010.
Mr Ropati has been principal of One Tree Hill College, formerly Penrose High School, for the past seven years, and has been instrumental in bringing together a senior leadership team, management team and staff who have collectively transformed the college.
Board of Trustees chair Garth Biggs said the college's past three Education Review Office reports illustrated the success of Mr Ropati's principalship, with the latest noting the "remarkable progress" that had been made.
This, Mr Biggs said, was coupled with a growing college roll, much improved NCEA results and notable sporting and cultural achievements.
"The board was delighted that Mr Ropati had the opportunity to continue his professional growth in an environment that would offer him new challenges and new learnings. He will be greatly missed but we wish him well.
"The board has initiated a process for recruiting his successor and will be starting this process with some urgency.
"We recognise that a good outcome is more important than a rapid outcome. We intend to advertise the position before Christmas, but anticipate that the process will take us well into Term 1 of 2010."
Nick Coughlan, the deputy principal, has accepted the position of acting principal effective from Mr Ropati's departure until the permanent principal starts with the college.
