David Liti's Victory at Commonwealth Games
April 13, 2018
It was a very proud moment late Monday evening on 9th April 2018 when former One Tree Hill College student, David Liti stunned the Commonwealth by lifting a record total 403kg, winning gold and along with it, the hearts of New Zealand. David was a school Prefect and a member of the 1st XV whilst he attended One Tree Hill College between 2011 and 2015. He is a humble young man who is very proud of his ‘old’ school.
David cleared 174kg in the snatch and was successful, in his final attempt, with 229kg in the clean and jerk to claim the gold medal. David’s trademark kiss, which he blew to the judges after each successful lift, is typical of his laid back, fun-filled personality. David’s coach, Tina Ball, has coached many One Tree Hill College weightlifters over the years, including fellow Commonwealth Games competitor Ianne Guinares who finished 7th in the 62kg division.
