Writer's Festival 2019

|| August 13, 2019

A class of Year 10 students from OTHC attended the annual Auckland Writer’s Festival that is held at Aotea Square in central Auckland. The Festival is a seven-day event that celebrates authors and their works. The selected students travelled by train to Britomart, then walked from the train station to Aotea Square where the festival was being held. At the festival people of all different age groups from across Auckland meet to listen to the stories and advice of world-renown authors. Well known authors such as Markus Zuzak, Akala, Renee Watson and Eileen Merriman shared their experiences as writers and the struggles they encountered during their journey to become successful writers. Various book-signings were held during and at the end of the programme.

The students were thrilled with being given the opportunity to experience meeting these authors. “It was really interesting to listen to the authors talk about their work, their struggles, and telling us tips to help us in the future,” said Ellery Taylor. “It was insightful and taught us about what writers go through and how they make the most out of everyday events,” added Angel Nand. The students would like to say a special thank you to Mr Patolo and Ms Havens for arranging for them to experience this inspiring literature event.
