NZ Chess Championship

On Saturday 24 October, 5 One Tree Hill College students competed in the National Power Chess Tournament. Students involved were Iele Ieremia, Matthew Hookings, Charlie Zhang, Harry Nguyen, and Jonathon Hookings. 

The team placed 4th, one point behind the team in 3rd place. This is a tremendous effort. All team members improved their chess rating. Jonathon had an outstanding day and was invited to participate in the individual tournament the next day. The B team played in the online tournament, Jed Sanchez and Oscar Forman both played well improving their rating. The tournament consisted of 9 rounds of chess in which students play moves in a limited time frame.
