OTHC Māori Hui 2020March 13, 2020
Earlier in the school term, parents of our new Māori whānau were invited to a hui (a gathering, or meeting) held on the college’s marae – Puakiekie. It was a very informal gathering with senior leaders, teachers, prefects and our current Māori students in attendance to welcome and talk to our new parents. It was a chance for our Māori Department to build form a network with our new parents to further enhance the strength of the college’s relationship with our Māori whānau. Our own Whaea Chez (CL Māori) was pleased with the turn out and reflected on the evening. "I was pleased to meet a good group of parents ready to help out with important things at the marae like kapahaka and fundraising. However, I encourage more of our Māori parents to get involved. It was a pleasant evening and it was so good to meet the many new parents. From this evening we now have a core group who will be our parent leaders for the future." A good turnout, a night full of cultural enrichment, learning and enjoyment.
