Rotary National Science & Technology ForumMay 14, 2021
Roy Rogers and Bree Felton recently attended the 2021 Rotary National Science and Technology Forum where they learnt about science and technology alongside 170 other students from all over New Zealand. During the two-week forum held at UOA, AUT, and Massey they learnt about science and technology alongside 170 other students from all over New Zealand. Deputy Head Girl Bree Felton said of her experience, “It was an amazing opportunity to challenge myself beyond the scope of NCEA, build my confidence, open my eyes to different career paths, and make life-long friendships with other students passionate about science.” Head Boy Roy Rogers added, “It was an amazing opportunity to challenge ourselves beyond the scope of NCEA, building our confidence in attacking uncharted fields, open our eyes to different career paths, and make life-long friendships with other students passionate about science!” Rotarian Trevor Bayly who was instrumental in organising for the two students to attend the forum was pleased with the outcome and reflected on his selection of the two students. “After first meeting the two students, I was not surprised when I learnt that Bree Felton is OTHC’s Deputy Head Girl and Roy Rogers is the Head Boy. When I interviewed them both last year for the National Science and Technology Forum, I was soon aware that I was with two very special young people.
When they came back to Rotary to inform us about their experiences at the Forum the club was treated to an outstanding presentation. It was evident that they both embraced the Forum and maximised the benefit of attending.” This experience would not have been possible without the support of the Penrose Rotary Club, Ms Sqibbs and the College management. Roy and Bree made a presentation to Rotary Club of Penrose last week to express their gratitude for making the experience possible.
