Samoan Language Week 2021

|| August 4, 2021

One Tree Hill College was enlightened and blessed to celebrate Samoan Language Week - Vaiaso O Le Gagana Samoa. The theme for the Samoan Language Week this year was “Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale”, which translates to “strengthen the posts of your home, for all to thrive.” This message of our home being the center in which we thrive, empowered, and motivated the students of One Hill College throughout the week. The tremendous celebration of this year’s Samoan Language week, finished with the main event when the One Tree Hill College Samoan group entertained the school with breathtaking Samoan dances and performances that showed a glimpse to their Samoan culture.

Needless to say, the auditorium was fully packed with enthusiastic crowd of students, teachers and families who had come to watch their children perform.  Mr. Patolo, one of the many teachers who helped organise and run this successful show commented, “That Thursday lunchtime concert was truly an amazing event. As a teacher, I am so proud of our Samoan students stepping up.”  A year 13 student, Vondra Talafua from 13 KAP commented, “I loved it, the effort and hardwork put in was worth it on the day especially feeling the hype and atmosphere in the auditorium. It just became a special event for everyone.”  Lastly, Leavea Kisoo from 11MAB said, “I had a good experience with the Samoan group, I got to learn more, express and spread my culture which makes me so proud”.
