Culture

Cultural activities are a vibrant and valued part of life at One Tree Hill College. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we provide many opportunities for students to celebrate, express, and share their cultural identities.

Cultural Performance Groups

Each year, the college sends a number of cultural groups to perform at the ASB Polyfest, one of the largest Pacific cultural festivals in the world. Over the years, our students have proudly represented their heritage through outstanding performances in:

  • Kapa Haka
  • Tongan Group
  • Samoan Group
  • Filipino Group
  • Other cultural and diversity groups

These groups demonstrate dedication, pride, and teamwork as they prepare and perform on regional and national stages.

Annual Cultural Evening

Our cultural groups also showcase their talents at the One Tree Hill College Cultural Evening, held in Term 3 each year. This is a major celebration for our school community, bringing together families, friends, and students to experience cultural performances, traditional music, and dance.

Cultural & Language Weeks

Alongside performance opportunities, the college celebrates several cultural and language weeks throughout the year. These weeks honour the diverse languages spoken within our school community and highlight the rich cultural heritage of our students.

We celebrate through:

  • Traditional song and dance
  • Sharing cultural food
  • Wearing cultural attire
  • Activities and displays across the school

On the Friday of each language week, students and staff are encouraged to dress in their traditional cultural attire, creating a colourful and joyful atmosphere across the college.

A Community of Shared Identity

Cultural celebrations strengthen our school values of respect, belonging, and unity. Students and staff enjoy the opportunity to share their culture, learn from one another, and build deeper understanding across the school community.
