Student Support
The Student Services Centre brings together a multidisciplinary team of professionals who support students and their whānau. Our team includes:

Social Worker
SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
Learning Support Coordinator (LSC)
This team supports students experiencing challenges that may affect wellbeing, engagement, or learning.
Appointments
Students and families can request appointments with counsellors, social workers, or youth workers via the online booking system.
Our counselling service provides confidential, professional support for students.
Led by Kim James (Lead Counsellor) and supported by four additional counsellors Theon Ng, Priscilla Tuhua, Kristin Fleming and Glenn Bilby.
All counsellors work in line with the NZAC Code of Ethics

What counselling can help with:
Difficulties at home or school
Low self-esteem
Bullying or abuse
Friendship and relationship concerns
Grief and loss
Depression or anxiety
Stress or anger management
Problem-solving and informed decision-making
Students may be invited to join small counselling groups or programmes.
Social Work
The school has a full-time social worker through Family Works, supporting students and families and connecting them with external agencies when required.
Youth Work
Youth workers provide mentoring and additional support for students who need extra guidance at different stages of their schooling.
Community Partnerships
We work closely with agencies such as Vaka Tautua, 24/7 Youthwork and Youthline, offering a wide range of mentoring and support programmes.
Referrals for social work, youth work, and external programmes are made through Whānau Leaders, counsellors, or the social worker.
The School Health Centre provides free, comprehensive healthcare in a welcoming and supportive environment. Services are funded by Health New Zealand (Te Whatu Ora).
Our Health Team includes:

Visiting Doctor (one day per week)

All health staff are professionally trained, registered, and committed to student privacy and confidentiality.
Health services available:
Emergency first aid
Annual Year 9 health checks
Doctor and psychologist clinics
Support for long-term or ongoing conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, allergies, concussion)
Vision and hearing screening
Immunisation programme support
Free dental care for under-18s once registered via the mobile dental clinic (Dental Planet)
Visiting specialists (e.g. Starship and Public Health Nurses)
Health advice for students and families
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to share medical information confidentially with the Health Centre team.
Physiotherapy services are available on-site through the School Health Centre. Students should see the nurse first, who will arrange referrals as needed.
The Learning Support team works closely with students, families, and teachers to support learners with additional needs.

One Tree Hill College’s Whānau system provides strong pastoral support and continuity of care.
Every student belongs to a Whānau class
Whānau classes are grouped and overseen by Whānau Leaders
Whānau Leaders are often the first point of contact for families
Whānau teachers and leaders closely monitor:
Attendance
Wellbeing
Academic progress
Where possible, junior students are taught within their Whānau teaching groups to provide stability and strong relationships.
Daily Whānau Time
Whānau classes meet at least once a day for attendance, administration, and pastoral support.
Year 9 Peer Support
Each Year 9 Whānau class has senior prefects attached, helping new students settle into secondary school while developing leadership skills.
