Trade Academy Project

Trade Academy Project 2026

Our 2026 $1 House Project - At the heart of this project is a 74m² Keith Hay home — a 1990s classic — set to undergo a comprehensive deep retrofit at the hands of our Level 2 and Level 3 Trade Academy students, working under the expert supervision of a Licensed Building Practitioner.

The result will be a healthy, warm, and dry two-bedroom, one-bathroom home, fully accredited under the HomeStar rating system — and built to generate low to zero power bills.

Achieving energy efficiency through:

  • Thermal envelope — High-performance insulation by Mammoth Insulation and double glazing by Woods Glass
  • Energy-efficient appliances — Low-consumption fixtures and appliances by Fisher & Paykel
  • Heating & cooling — Heat pump systems by Daikin
  • Mechanical services — Installation by Gforce
  • Continuous ventilation — Fresh air systems by Simx
  • Hot water — Heat pump hot water system by Stiebel Eltron
  • Smart energy management — Basis Smart Panel by Basis
  • Solar & battery storage — Generation and storage by Future Energy
  • Electrical services — Installation by Standout Electric
  • Zero Bills plan — Wholesale electricity plan by Octopus Energy

We are deeply grateful to our entire sponsor community — including the electrification partners listed above and all those supporting behind the scenes — for joining us on this journey. Together, we're creating real-world learning opportunities that will help launch a new generation of skilled tradespeople into apprenticeships in September 2026.
