OTHC has announced the prefect team for 2026. Principal Mr Coughlan has expressed his encouragement and support for those selected and says, “In 2026 we have an exceptionally talented team of young leaders at One Tree Hill College who were awarded their Prefect badge and tie at a special assembly to honour their achievement. It will be a pleasure working with them and seeing the impact they will have on the college this year." The group is comprised of students that have shown exceptional leadership skills, along with a deep sense of desire to enhance the school community in all areas of school life. The six students who are leading the prefect team are Head Girl Esther Hutchinson, supported by the Deputy Head Girls Merryn Raukura and Lily Tuisuva. The Head Boy is Renouf Amani, and the Deputy Head Boys are Hunter Framhein, and Emmanuel Tangimataiti. Within the prefect team, there are also specific committees that two nominated prefects oversee. When questioned about their experience of becoming Head Students, their family’s reactions and what their goals are as head students, Renouf stated, “I was surprised to get the head student role. However, I felt honoured and my family were ecstatic about this achievement as it will be beneficial to my future.”
Renouf aims to support the student body and attempt to represent what the student body want to see from our prefect group. Esther also expressed how honoured she felt to lead the prefect team and on becoming Head Girl. “It has been an aspiration of mine since primary school to become head student at a secondary school”, she says, “and achieving my goal has made my parents so unconditionally proud of me. They are excited for me to be given this opportunity.” She has reflected recently that her motivations as a prefect is to show love and encouragement for others while helping them to succeed. She would love to foster a positive learning environment in the school by modelling the required standard and developing student leadership throughout the school community. The prefect team are immensely grateful for all the support and are excited for the year to come. We all aim to build a community where students and staff feel supported and encouraged to epitomize our school motto, ‘strive for higher things’ in all areas of life
