One Tree Hill College held its annual Year 9 Parents BBQ Evening. Close to 200 families were welcomed into the school with the purpose of strengthening connections and supporting our newest students as they begin their secondary school journey. The evening provided an important opportunity for parents and whānau to meet the key staff who will be guiding their children throughout this first year. Parents met Whānau Leaders, Whānau Teachers, Student Support Services and Learning Support staff, and subject teachers. Student leaders, Prefects, and Peer Supports were also present, sharing their own experiences and helping families feel confident about their child’s transition into Year 9. After parents were shown around the college facilities, the evening concluded with a BBQ in the newly refurbished Miro Quad, creating a welcoming space for conversation and community building.
Deputy Principal Mr Kimi, who oversaw the organisation of the event, expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout, stating, “With close to 200 families in attendance, it was a valuable opportunity for our new members of the OTHC whānau community to connect directly with the staff who will be supporting their Year 9 students throughout their educational journey. Events like this allow us to build meaningful partnerships with families from the very beginning.” The success of the evening once again highlighted the importance of collaboration between home and school and reinforcing OTHC’s commitment to fostering a connected and supportive community.Parent Mrs Poonam Kumari said. “It was really nice to meet the teachers especially the whānau leaders. I also enjoyed looking around the school I found it very interesting.”
