Polyfest 2026

One Tree Hill College celebrated outstanding success at this year’s Polyfest, with students earning top awards across multiple categories and bringing pride to their school community. Among the standout achievements were Year 11 student Holika Halatoafa and Year 13 student Melenaite Lutui, who both won first place in their respective divisions in the Tongan Stage Senior Speech Competition. Competing against more than 60 contestants, their victories highlighted not only their speaking ability but also their strong connection to their culture and language. Holika reflected on his win, saying, “It felt really good winning first place, especially as I didn’t think I would win it. My famili were so proud of me and it was so good that they could be there to see me speak.” Melenaite also shared her excitement, saying, “I didn’t expect to have done so well but I was so happy winning and that I got to use my language to gain such success. My Dad, who had helped me write my speech, and my famili were there to hear me speak and they were so proud of me.”

In addition to these achievements, Tavita Apolinalio earned second place in the prestigious Fuataimi Category on the Samoan stage. This award recognises group conductors and is considered highly respected within the festival. Ms Talafua, who led the Samoan group, praised Tavita’s accomplishment, saying, “This is such a highly regarded award and by being placed so highly, Tavita brought so much pride to the group and the school. I was so proud of him”. Ms Uata, who oversees the Tongan group, also reflected on the success of Holika and Melenaite, stating, “Both Holika and Melenaite were really keen to take part in the speech competition, they were both passionate and confident to perform and represent our school.” These achievements highlight the dedication, talent, and cultural pride of OTHC students, making this year’s Polyfest a memorable and successful event for the school.
