Year 12 Business Studies students recently took part in an exciting and insightful trip to Spookers, combining fun with real-world learning. Students experienced two of the venue’s most popular attractions, the Haunted House and Disturbia, collecting plenty of scares along the way. Beyond the thrills, the visit supported learning for Achievement Standard 90847, which focuses on investigating motivation theory in a real business. A highlight of the day was a 30-minute talk from owner Jason, who shared how he motivates his staff in a high-energy environment. He explained the importance of strong team culture, along with both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, giving students valuable examples to use in their assessments. “The visit to Spookers gave our students a valuable opportunity to see motivation theory in action. It was great to see students not only enjoy themselves but also engaging so positively during Jason’s speech. Hearing directly from him about how he motivates his staff in such a unique environment really helped bring their learning to life. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was a fun and engaging day out,” said Ms Rodgers, Teacher in Charge. Students also had the chance to not only gather firsthand evidence but to observe how a unique business operates behind the scenes, helping them link theory to practice. “Our 12BST trip to Spookers was a memorable and educational experience, where we met Jason Beattie, gained insight into their motivations, and saw how their business operates. Overall, it was an exciting day for our class to have fun and learn at the same time,” one student reflected. Overall, the trip was a memorable blend of entertainment and education, bringing classroom concepts to life in an engaging way.
