One Tree Hill College held their Athletics Day at Mt Smart Stadium recently. Once again this much looked forward to annual event was a huge success for both the students and the staff. Despite the weather not being too good at the start, it did not stop students from participating to the fullest, giving their best effort in the various disciplines to earn points for their whānau.  Such a school event encourages teamwork within the whānau groups, school spirit, resilience, and healthy competition, with students supporting and cheering each other on throughout the day. Organiser of the day Mr Faunt was very pleased with how the day went and said, “The day went really well, and it was great to see all the competitors trying so hard to gain points for their whānau. I’d like to pay tribute to all our staff and students for contributing to make this such an enjoyable day.” Overall participation from each whānau was high, with students getting involved in both track and field events, making the day enjoyable and successful for everyone involved. 

Though the final points were very close, a strong Kōwhai Whānau came first overall, showing outstanding participation, leadership and determination across the events. Kōwhai Whānau Leaders were very proud of their whānau effort with Co-Leaders Mr Fale and Mrs Luxton saying, “Thank you Kōwhai Whānau for an outstanding Athletics Day, taking out the overall team win is thanks to incredible individual achievements, strong participation, and the enthusiastic spirit shown by every member who gave their best on and off the field. In all honesty, when you participate, there is no room for debate. It's the team that makes the dream work and its Kōwhai who've won the athletics, two years straight!”
