Sport
One Tree Hill College provides opportunities in a wide range of different sports. Our students compete at a variety of levels ranging from social teams to those that compete at national and international levels. Elite performers are able to trial for our sports academies which are offered in Year 9 and Year 10.
Students participate in the Auckland Secondary School competitions. Many of our top sports teams compete in Auckland ‘A’ grade competitions. The college has formed strong links with local sports clubs and some teams compete in local sports leagues.
The College sends a number of teams each year to compete in regional and national tournaments. Both the senior and junior baseball teams are currently the New Zealand national champions.
See the College Sport Website www.collegesport.co.nz for more information about the Auckland Secondary School Sports competitions.
Arts
One Tree Hill College offers a comprehensive arts programme. Students are offered opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities including Music, Art, Dance, Photography, and Drama. The Music department offers opportunities which include choral groups (Peka Totara Girls Choir), student-led male voice choir (Kau Hiva Heilala), and student-led bands. Students regularly participate in Rockquest, the Big Sing, and Showquest, which allows them to develop their artistic abilities and collaboration skills.
There are also a number of clubs and extracurriculars available for students, including Art and Mindfulness, News Media Photography, and participation in Whānau Art Competitions.
Culture
Cultural activities are an important element of life at One Tree Hill College. Each year the college sends a number of cultural groups to perform at the ASB Polyfest. This past year, we sent our Kapa Haka, Tongan, Samoan, and Filipino groups, who had outstanding performances. Our cultural groups also perform at our annual Cultural Evening, which is held in the middle of the year. Alongside our cultural opportunities, One Tree Hill College also celebrates a number of Cultural Language weeks throughout the year. We celebrate the diversity of languages our students speak through song, dance, food, and cultural attire. Students are encouraged to dress in their traditional, formal attire on the Friday of their Language Week. Students and staff alike enjoy the experience of sharing their language and culture together.
