Counselling

Kim is the lead counsellor at One Tree Hill College. There are another three counsellors in the counselling team. Our counsellors work according to the NZAC Code of Ethics and are expected to be professional, trustworthy and respect student confidentiality. They have regular supervision and professional development.

What is Counselling?

Through confidential counselling students are assisted to explore their difficulties and concerns, and are supported to find new solutions or ways of coping.

Students might seek counselling for a variety of reasons:

  • Difficulties at home or school
  • Low self esteem
  • Bullying or abuse
  • Friendship/relationship concerns
  • Grief and loss
  • Informed decision making
  • Support for problem solving and finding resolutions
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Managing stress or anger

Social Work

The school has the services of a full-time social worker through Family Works. Our social worker can assist students and families with support and links to other agencies that can address specific needs.

Youth Work and Agency Support

The school employs youth workers, to mentor and support students that may need extra help or support at different times during their schooling.

We have relationships with Vaka Tautua and Blue Light to provide a range of other mentoring and support services in school.

Referrals for youth mentoring support and other programmes are made via your Whānau Leader, school counsellor or social worker.
