National Success at The Big Sing

|| June 9, 2014

The One Tree Hill College Men's Chorale and the Girl's Choir were both exceptional at the regional 'The Big Sing' competition held on Tuesday June 10 at the Auckland Town Hall.  The two groups performed a number of pieces and impressed the large crowd with the quality of their performances.  Both the groups are led by the Head of Music Mr John Scott, Music Teacher Raewyn Seto and are conducted by Mr Terence Maskell.  The groups are pictured above and below.

Following the regional competition, The One Tree Hill College Men’s Chorale has been selected to compete in the FINAL of the New Zealand Big Sing Competition. This is a selection of the most elite 22 college singing groups in New Zealand, all of whom have qualified through their respective regional finals. This is a wonderful achievement. The national finals will be held between 21-23 August at the Auckland Town Hall.

The Big Sing (TBS) is a highly successful secondary schools choral festival/competition, which has been taking place for more than twenty years, and is aimed at young singers, the emerging end of New Zealand’s choral and singing talent. More than 8,500 singers from 250 choirs entered the 2014 regional competitions held in twelve centres throughout the country - this makes The Big Sing one of the largest competitive events in New Zealand. Tens of thousands of audience members, including choristers and directors from secondary schools, as well as members of the public, parents and supporters, will also attend the events throughout the country. Each year the Finale, with 22 of New Zealand’s top selected choirs taking part, is held in a different centre and this year it will be held in the Auckland Town Hall.
