Tongan Language Week 2016

This week we celebrated ‘Uike lea faka-Tonga / Tongan language week at our College. The theme this year is Fakakoloa ‘a Aotearoa ‘a e Loto’i Tonga / Enriching Aotearoa with the Tongan spirit and that’s exactly what our assemblies were about this week. Our assemblies were led by our Tongan students and these students wanted to share their language and culture with the rest of the College by opening with a himi (hymn), lotu (prayer) and then performing three cultural items; two Tau’olunga performed by our girls and the Mako performed by our boys. The students enjoyed the assemblies and learnt a little more about the Tongan culture.
