Auckland Softball Champions 2025
March 24, 2025
For the fourth year in a row the OTHC Senior Girls Softball Team took out the Auckland Softball Championship! This year the competition followed the ‘Fast 45 rules’, making the games much quicker and more intense than traditional softball which meant it took a few games before the girls adjusted to the pace. When they finally found their rhythm, it was when it mattered most, winning both the quarter-final and semi-final to secure a spot in the final against their long-time softball rivals, Rosehill College. The final was an exciting affair with OTHC trailing after the first innings and a controversial pitching substitution in the second innings. However, the girls stayed composed, showed incredible discipline, and fought back to claim a 10-8 victory. A special shoutout to our two MVPs of the day Layarnah Halamamao-Davis our new Year 9 pitcher, who pitched in every game and pitched full games in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final and Elyse Harold-Fasi who was the catcher for the day and smashed at least three home runs! One of the stars Elyse Harold-Fasi said, “We won the title because we worked together as a team. The final was nerve racking but as the game went on, we became more confident of the win. We would also like to thank our coaches and managers for all their support in guiding us to this win.” The team was coached by OTHC sports teacher Ms Murray who said, “The girls struggled at the start with the different format but came together as the day went on taking out a very intense final. The team represented our school with pride, and their efforts deserve huge recognition. They now travel to Wellington to play at the Nationals against the best teams in New Zealand.
