One Tree Hill College has gained a valuable asset to its rugby program with the arrival of former All Black Bradley Mika as its new Director of Rugby and 1st XV Rugby coach. After a successful professional career spanning a decade, Coach Mika retired from rugby in 2012 and focused on mentoring young athletes interested in a rugby pathway. This desire to help young people set and subsequently reach their goals, has taken him around the world. With a growing family, and missing home. Coach Brad decided to return to New Zealand where upon he applied for, and won, the position at OTHC. In his new role, Coach Mika oversees the Year 9 and 10 rugby academies, working closely with students to develop their skills, discipline, and teamwork. Beyond coaching, he also serves as a community liaison person, ensuring students remain engaged in both their education and sport. His goal for the 1st XV is to build a strong team culture, where players feel motivated, work hard, and support each other both on and off the field. “I’m excited to be here,” Coach Mika said, “there’s a lot of talent at OTHC, and I want to help these students grow as players and as people. It’s about creating an environment where they enjoy the game and push themselves to be better.” With Coach Mika’s leadership, experience, and passion for the sport, OTHC rugby is set for an exciting and competitive future.
