OTHC Whānau Hui 2023

|| August 2, 2023

A very successful whānau hui was held in One Tree Hill College’s Te Puakiekie Marae recently.  The college’s Māori parents were invited to attend the meeting to establish links between the school and the community. Along with both the new and old whānau and the students there were a large number of staff members in attendance, including Principal Mr. Coughlan who was there to answer any questions from the school’s perspective. It was a great opportunity for the college’s Māori whānau to interact with the teachers.“It was a good opportunity to have conversations with our parents as to where they are at, how they are feeling and what support the school can give them. We were delighted with the good turn-out of both parents and staff members who both benefitted from this occasion,” Whaea Shana said. “The most pleasing aspect of the evening was the huge number of new whānau present and the overwhelming positive energy and enthusiasm from them to forming this year’s Māori committee.

It was a great night with a very impressive turn-out of parents who were very forthcoming with their questions about OTHC and the learning that they could expect their children to be given.” Ms Swanson-Terepo, a parent who came to the hui, expressed her satisfaction with the evening saying, "I could truly sense the manakitanga between the whānau that were assembled there, in the whare. It was lovely that everyone shared their pepeha, and there was a lot of aroha among the whānau.” Whaea Shana commented on a great night for OTHC, “Lots of korero from a very supportive gathering, I am really looking forward to working with all the whānau.

"He aha te mea nui. He whānau, he whānau, he whānau.”
