OTHC Trades Academy 2025
March 24, 2025
The OTHC Trades Academy has completely renovated a 1970s house in the span of nine months and 17 days. Year 12 and 13 trades students worked together to complete the renovation and learnt valuable life skills experience on the way. This was a great opportunity for the students who worked on the project as they picked up the different skills working with, and learning from, the various plumbers, carpenters, roofers, plasters and electricians involved in the work. This will certainly help them as they think of their futures in the trades industry One Tree Hill College is one of the first schools in New Zealand to ever give students the opportunity to renovate a house. This decision though risky, has been a wonderful opportunity, and one with a great outcome as when completed the house will be auctioned off. Ms McKeon who has been the driving force behind the Trades Academy says that it was a privilege being able to work on this project and is so grateful to the Board of Trustees and Principal Mr Coughlan for giving the academy an opportunity for them to work on this project. She also acknowledges the many building supply firms and tradespeople who have given up their time to help with the project.
