Tawa Mufti Day 2024

|| August 22, 2024

For the first fundraiser of 2024, Tawa planned a non-uniform day for all students to participate in. This non-uniform day was a fundraiser for the Heart Foundation. The Heart Foundation helps people in NZ with certain heart conditions. They are known widely across the country for their education, support, research and treatments for multiple cardiovascular diseases. They’ve invested about $90 million into research to help our New Zealanders suffering from heart disease. Though they spend thousands of dollars on research per year, they are still a non-profit organization, working solely off the money they receive from fundraisers such as the one our school held. With our previous mufti-days being so successful, we knew the gold coin donations from our students, would mean a generous donation to this worthwhile organisation. The theme for the non-uniform day was ‘Red’ since it was not only led by Tawa, the ‘red’ whānau, but it was also the trademark color of the Heart Foundation. It was great to see all our students supporting the Heart Foundation wearing their red attire for the great cause. “I think it was a really fun day where my friends and I got to express ourselves but also support the cause,” Year10 student Aaliyah Temu said.

Our principal, Mr Coughlan, also made very positive remarks about the day. “The Tawa team did a great job leading our non-uniform day to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. Over $1,600 was raised. Thank you to everyone who donated towards this excellent cause,” he said. Special thanks to the Tawa prefects, Ms Murray and Ms Eliason, who were the wonderful team that organized the event. The school can’t wait for the next non-uniform day and cause to support!
